Dell Latitude E7470 14.0" HD laptop

The Dell Latitude E7470 is a 14.0 inch HD laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6650U processor running at 2.20 GHz with a turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz. It comes with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a new 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. The system ships without an operating system installed.

Thermals noise and power draw

The dual-core processor has a base speed of 2.20 GHz and can reach 3.40 GHz under load. Integrated Intel Iris Graphics 540 handles visual output on the 1366 x 768 non-touch display. The M.2 NVMe SSD operates without moving parts for silent data access.

Upgrade path and value

This unit replaces older dual-core laptops limited to 8GB of memory or mechanical hard drives. The jump is worthwhile for users who need 16GB of DDR4 and a 1TB NVMe drive in a 14.0 inch chassis. Buyers who want more storage capacity or a higher resolution screen should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install an operating system on this Latitude E7470, and which step do people often miss?

Create a bootable USB drive with your chosen OS, boot from it, and install to the 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD; the step many miss is entering the BIOS to disable Secure Boot and set the USB as the first boot device.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16GB DDR4 memory need later?

The memory is already at the 16GB maximum supported, so no upgrade is possible; only reseat the modules if the laptop fails to POST after a move or shock.

What limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads on the Intel Iris Graphics 540?

The integrated GPU shares system memory and thermal headroom with the i7-6650U, so thermal throttling typically caps clock speeds before the 16GB DDR4 becomes a bottleneck.
