Built for field work

The Dell Latitude Rugged 5420 is a 14 inch FHD non-touch laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8350U processor with four cores reaching 3.6 GHz. It ships with 8GB of memory and a 1TB SSD running Windows 11 Pro. The chassis meets rugged standards for harsh environments and targets first responders, utility crews and mobile professionals who need a durable business machine.

Optional ports expand connectivity

The system includes a removable PCIe storage bay, an SD card slot and a SIM card slot for flexible data and network options. Configurable I/O lets you choose a second serial port, VGA, DisplayPort or Fischer USB alongside native serial, RJ-45 gigabit Ethernet, HDMI and multiple USB 3.0 Type-A and Type-C ports. A stylus and a second RJ-45 connector are offered as optional accessories.

Serviceable storage and modular I/O

The removable storage bay allows drive swaps without tools, simplifying upgrades or data recovery in the field. Modular port blocks can be exchanged to match mission requirements, though selecting the wrong block removes a needed interface. The 4.9 lb weight and 1.29 inch profile demand a sturdy mount or carry solution for extended mobile use.

Questions about this item

Is the 1 TB SSD in the removable PCIe storage bay user-replaceable?

Yes, the 1 TB SSD sits in a removable PCIe storage bay, so it can be swapped or upgraded without opening the main chassis.

Will the Intel Core i5-8350U hit its 3.6 GHz turbo ceiling before the cooling system can keep up during long workloads?

The quad-core i5-8350U tops out at 3.6 GHz turbo; sustained loads will be limited by the rugged thermal design rather than the processor itself.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the chassis feel when the laptop runs all day on Windows 11 Pro?

The rugged chassis is built for continuous operation; fan noise and surface temperature stay within the limits expected for a 4.9 lb sealed design.
