What this desktop delivers

The Dell OptiPlex 7040 in small form factor ships with an Intel Core i5-6500 running at 3.20 GHz, 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB 2.5" SSD. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 drives up to three displays when the optional video port is fitted. A DVDRW, USB keyboard and USB mouse complete the bundle. No monitor is included.

Bundled accessories and software impact

The included USB keyboard and mouse let you start working immediately without sourcing peripherals. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit provides business-grade management and security features out of the box. The DVDRW adds legacy media read and write capability for archives or installation discs. The 1 TB 2.5" SSD offers ample space for applications and local files while keeping the slim chassis profile.

Check your setup before ordering

Verify that your display uses DisplayPort or HDMI, or plan for the optional video output if a third screen is required. Ensure the small form factor chassis fits your intended desk or mounting location. Confirm that any discrete graphics card you may add later is compatible with the slim form factor power and space limits. The system is sold as refurbished.

Questions about this item

What storage upgrade does the 7040 Small Form Factor chassis allow?

The Dell OptiPlex 7040 SFF is designed to support dual hard drives, so you can add a second 2.5" drive later if you need more capacity.

Which component reaches its thermal ceiling first when the i5-6500 runs at 3.20 GHz continuously?

The Intel HD Graphics 530 shares the processor package, so sustained all-core workloads push the CPU thermal limit before the discrete graphics would.

How much fan noise and heat should I expect from the 16 GB DDR4 system running all day?

The small form factor chassis moves less air than a tower, so the fan spins up noticeably under long loads and the case top becomes warm to the touch.
