Compact business desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s SFF desktop PC is a small-form-factor system built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8500 hexa-core processor running at 3.0 GHz up to 4.1 GHz. It ships with 32 GB DDR4 memory and a 3.5-inch 1 TB hard drive. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Included peripherals and connectivity

A USB keyboard and mouse are supplied in the box so the system is ready to use without extra purchases. A USB wireless dongle provides 5 GHz-capable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The optical bay holds a DVD-ROM drive for legacy media access. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles display output without a discrete card.

Storage and expansion limits

The 1 TB mechanical drive offers high capacity but slower access than solid-state alternatives. The SFF chassis restricts internal expansion to low-profile cards and limits drive bays compared with tower models. DDR4 UDIMM slots use the 240-pin form factor for memory upgrades. Buyers needing faster boot times or additional drive bays should consider those constraints.

Questions about this item

Will the 3.5-inch 1TB hard drive need replacement if it fails after heavy use?

The 3.5-inch 1TB hard drive is a mechanical component that can wear out over time; if it fails, it would need to be replaced with a compatible 3.5-inch drive.

What limits sustained performance of the Intel Core i5-8500 processor during long workloads?

The Intel Core i5-8500 has a 65W TDP and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.1 GHz; sustained heavy loads will be limited by thermal throttling once the cooling solution reaches its capacity.

How much heat and noise does the 65W processor generate when running all day in the SFF case?

The 65W Intel Core i5-8500 produces moderate heat under continuous load; the small form factor case uses a compact cooler that will spin faster and become audible during sustained operation.
