Dell OptiPlex 390 desktop with i5-2400

This Dell OptiPlex 390 desktop computer ships new with an Intel Core i5-2400 quad-core processor at 3.10 GHz, 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 500 GB 3.5-inch hard drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed alongside a 16X DVD±RW drive. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 provides VGA and HDMI video outputs. Gigabit Ethernet, a USB keyboard and a USB mouse are included.

Ideal for office tasks, not for heavy workloads

The system suits students and home-office users who need a ready-to-run PC for documents, web browsing and light multitasking. Buyers who require more memory capacity, faster storage or a discrete graphics card for demanding applications should consider a different configuration. The compact desktop case limits internal expansion compared with larger tower formats.

8 GB DDR3 memory installed

The platform uses DDR3 DIMM modules in a 240-pin form factor. Verify that any memory upgrade matches this exact generation and pin count, as other DDR types are physically and electrically incompatible. The four-slot layout supports additional modules within the chipset's maximum capacity.

Questions about this item

How do I install more DDR3 memory in the OptiPlex 390 and which step is often missed?

Open the case, insert modules into the 240-pin DIMM slots until the retention clips click, then update the BIOS so the full 8 GB is recognised at the correct speed.

Which component in this OptiPlex 390 is most likely to need replacement first?

The 3.5-inch 500 GB hard drive has moving parts and will typically wear out before the solid-state components or the 16X DVD±RW drive.

What limit appears first when the i5-2400 runs at 3.10 GHz under sustained load?

The Intel HD Graphics 2000 integrated GPU becomes the bottleneck for video playback or light 3D work long before the quad-core processor reaches its thermal ceiling.
