Business desktop for office tasks

The Dell OptiPlex 7010 Slim Tower runs a 3rd Gen Intel Core i5-3470 at 3.20 GHz with 16 GB DDR3 RAM and two 1 TB SSDs. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed alongside a DVD±RW drive and integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000. A USB keyboard and mouse are included for immediate deployment.

Replaces older dual-core or HDD systems

Moving from a dual-core machine or mechanical drives to this quad-core 3.20 GHz configuration with dual solid-state storage cuts boot and application load times dramatically. The jump is worth it when daily workloads involve multiple browser tabs, office suites and light database work that exceed 8 GB memory.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous multi-threaded load the processor can reach 3.60 GHz Turbo Boost while the integrated graphics top out at 1.10 GHz dynamic frequency. The slim chassis relies on Intel HD Graphics 2500 for up to three displays, so extended 3D rendering or heavy compute tasks will throttle compared to discrete GPU workstations. Buyers who need dedicated graphics memory or higher turbo headroom should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What clearance does the OptiPlex 7010 Slim Tower need for the DVD±RW drive tray to open fully?

The slim tower chassis is designed for the internal DVD±RW drive; allow at least five centimetres in front of the bezel so the tray can extend without obstruction.

Which slot do I populate first when adding the 16 GB DDR3 DIMMs to the four 240-pin sockets?

Install modules in the black sockets first, then the blue ones, ensuring each DIMM clicks fully into the 240-pin slot before closing the case.

When should I plan to swap the two 1 TB solid-state drives in this OptiPlex 7010?

Monitor SMART health attributes; replace a drive once its reallocated-sector count or wear-level indicator approaches the vendor threshold.
