Compact business desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 7040 Micro Tower delivers an Intel Core i7-6700T processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 128GB SSD in a 7.2 x 1.14 x 7 inch chassis. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed alongside Intel HD Graphics 530 for everyday office workloads. A keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

Upgrade from older SFF units

This micro tower replaces larger small-form-factor desktops while keeping a 65W AC adapter and quad-core performance up to 3.6 GHz. The jump is worthwhile when desk space is limited but native DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI outputs are still required for dual monitors. Buyers who need internal expansion slots or a 2.5-inch drive bay should look elsewhere.

Limits of the 65W platform

The 65W power brick caps sustained CPU turbo and rules out discrete graphics upgrades. Four USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports plus one Type-C port share total bandwidth, so multiple high-throughput peripherals may contend. Gigabit Ethernet tops out at 1000 Mbps, and the single 128GB SSD leaves no room for large local datasets without external storage.

Questions about this item

What are the dimensions of the Micro Tower chassis so I can check if it fits my desk space?

The chassis measures 7.2 x 1.14 x 7 inches and weighs 2.56 pounds, making it compact for tight desk areas or VESA mounting behind a monitor.

Does the 65W AC adapter connect via a standard barrel jack or a proprietary connector?

The 65W AC adapter plugs into the dedicated power port on the rear; the system ships with the matching adapter so no separate cable hunt is required.

Can the 8GB DDR4 1866 memory be expanded later if I need more capacity?

The board uses DDR4 1866 SODIMM slots; you can add modules up to the board limit, matching the existing speed for stability.
