Ready for student and home-office work

The DELL OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower ships with a 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2400 running at 3.10 GHz, 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1 TB 3.5" SATA hard drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed with a Certificate of Authenticity. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 handles everyday display tasks. A USB keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

Mini Tower layout with front-access slots

The black-and-silver Mini Tower case uses a standard DIMM 240-pin memory layout with four slots, all currently populated. A DVD±RW drive sits in the 5.25" bay for disc media. Gigabit Ethernet is built into the Intel Q67 motherboard, while wireless connectivity comes from a separate USB WiFi adapter. Integrated audio and front-panel ports keep daily connections simple.

Replaces an older Core 2 Duo

Moving from a dual-core system to this quad-core i5 gives a clear lift in multitasking and 64-bit application support. The 16 GB DDR3 ceiling means memory can be doubled later if workloads grow. Buyers who need solid-state boot speed, discrete graphics or more than four memory channels should look at a different platform.

Questions about this item

What does the SATA interface on the 3.5" 1000 GB hard drive cap in practice?

The 1000 GB 3.5" drive uses SATA, so its transfer rate is limited to the SATA interface ceiling.

What physical space and connector does the mini-tower case need for that drive?

The case requires a standard 3.5" drive bay and a SATA data plus power connector.

How is the WiFi USB adapter installed, and what step do people often miss?

Plug the adapter into a free USB port, then install the driver before expecting a wireless connection.
