Desktop for home and office use

The Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower arrives new with an Intel 2nd Gen i5-2400 quad-core processor at 3.10 GHz and 4 GB of DDR3 memory. A 256 GB solid-state drive handles the operating system and applications while a 3.5 inch 2 TB hard drive adds bulk storage. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 drives the display outputs and a DVD±RW optical drive is fitted. Gigabit Ethernet and a USB wireless dongle provide network connectivity. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed with a USB keyboard and mouse included.

Thermals and power in daily use

The 265 W power supply feeds the processor, memory, both drives and integrated graphics in the mini tower chassis. Under typical office workloads the quad-core CPU runs within its 64-bit design envelope without requiring auxiliary power connectors. Fan noise stays low during web browsing, document editing and video playback. The dual-drive arrangement means the SSD operates without moving parts while the hard drive spins only when its data is accessed. Power draw scales with the workload but remains bounded by the unit's 265 W rating.

Upgrade path from older desktops

This system replaces aging towers that still rely on mechanical hard drives and dual-core processors. The jump is worth it when faster boot times, snappier application launches and 64-bit multi-threaded performance matter for daily productivity. The 4 GB DDR3 baseline can be expanded to 16 GB using the available 240-pin slots. The 256 GB SSD and 2 TB hard drive combination covers both speed and capacity needs without further changes. Buyers who want more storage than 2 TB or a dedicated graphics card should look elsewhere.
