Ready-to-use desktop for everyday tasks

This Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower arrives with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit installed and a keyboard and mouse included. A second-generation Intel Core i7-2600 quad-core processor runs at 3.40 GHz with a 3.90 GHz turbo boost. The system ships with 4 GB of DDR3 memory and a dual-drive layout: a 2.5-inch 256 GB SSD paired with a 3.5-inch 1 TB hard drive.

DDR3 memory ceiling and expansion limits

The board accepts DDR3 DIMMs in a 240-pin form factor and the manufacturer highlights options of 4, 8 or 16 GB. Four gigabytes handles light office work but constrains heavier multitasking or modern browser workloads. The 265 W power supply and Mini Tower chassis restrict graphics upgrades to low-profile cards that fit the power budget. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 and Gigabit Ethernet cover basic display and wired networking needs.

Replaces ageing hard-drive-only towers

Swapping an older mechanical-drive system for this SSD-plus-HDD combination cuts boot and application launch times dramatically. The jump is worth it when the current machine feels sluggish on startup or when opening large files. Buyers who need more than 16 GB of RAM, a modern CPU architecture or a dedicated graphics card for gaming or content creation should look elsewhere.
