Ultra Small Form Factor Desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 790 USFF is a compact desktop computer built around an Intel 2nd Gen quad-core i5-2400 processor running at 3.10 GHz. It ships with 4 GB of DDR3 memory, a 1000 GB hard drive and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 handles everyday display tasks. A USB keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

Connectivity and Expansion

The chassis provides a 16X DVD±RW drive, Gigabit Ethernet and multiple USB 2.0 ports for peripherals. Internal expansion includes PCI and PCI Express x16 slots plus legacy parallel and serial headers. The ultra-small form factor limits the physical space available for full-height cards or additional drives.

Compatibility Check

Verify that any add-in card you plan to install fits the low-profile bracket and the PCI Express x16 slot length. Confirm your monitor has a compatible video input for the integrated graphics output. Ensure the 4 GB of DDR3 memory meets the requirements of the applications you intend to run.

Questions about this item

What speed does the USB 2.0 interface limit external drives to?

USB 2.0 caps transfer rates well below the speed of modern SSDs, so external solid-state drives will run much slower than their native performance.

What drive bays and slots does the USFF chassis provide?

The Ultra Small Form Factor case holds one 3.5-inch hard drive and one slim optical drive, plus a PCI slot and a PCI Express x16 slot for add-in cards.

How is Windows 10 Pro installed and what step is often missed?

Windows 10 Professional 64-bit comes pre-installed; the step people skip is running the included restore media to create a recovery backup before first use.
