Ultra-Small Form Factor Desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 790 USFF is an ultra-small desktop computer built around a 2nd Generation Intel quad-core i5-2400 processor running at 3.10GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1000 GB hard drive, providing a ready-to-use platform for everyday office tasks and home computing. Windows 10 Professional 64-bit comes pre-installed alongside a USB keyboard and mouse.

Thermals Noise and Power

The compact USFF chassis houses the 64-bit quad-core CPU, integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 and a 16X DVD±RW drive within a space-saving black and silver enclosure. Integrated graphics and a single mechanical drive keep heat output and acoustic levels modest during typical productivity workloads. A Gigabit Ethernet port handles wired networking without adding a discrete controller card.

Build Integration

Expansion is provided through PCI, PCI Express x16, parallel, serial and multiple USB 2.0 ports for adding peripherals or legacy devices. The included restore media simplifies operating system recovery if required. Buyers who need more storage bays, a dedicated graphics card slot with auxiliary power or a larger motherboard form factor should consider a different chassis style.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 8 GB DDR3 RAM in the USFF chassis, and what step is often missed?

Open the small-form-factor case, align the notch on each DDR3 module with the slot key, press firmly until the retention clips click, then replace the cover; the step often missed is seating both clips fully so the module does not tilt.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1000 GB hard drive need later?

Plan to replace the 1000 GB hard drive when SMART warnings appear or performance degrades; keep the Windows 10 Pro restore media ready to reinstall the 64-bit operating system on the new drive.

What limit appears first during sustained use of the Intel HD Graphics 2000?

The Intel HD Graphics 2000 integrated GPU reaches its thermal and performance ceiling first during sustained graphical workloads, causing throttling and reduced frame rates.
