Dell OptiPlex 990 Mini Tower desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 990 Mini Tower is a desktop computer built for everyday office tasks and home use. It runs on an Intel Core i7-2600 processor with a base speed of 3.40 GHz and Turbo Boost up to 3.80 GHz. The system includes 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1 TB SATA hard drive for storage. Windows 10 Professional 64-bit comes pre-installed with a USB keyboard and mouse included.

Suited for general productivity and legacy software

This configuration suits users who need a traditional tower with an optical drive for discs and a Gigabit Ethernet port for wired networking. The 265 W power supply and integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 limit the machine to light workloads and older applications. Buyers who want more storage or a dedicated graphics card for modern gaming should look at other systems.

Form factor and expandability

The Mini Tower chassis uses a 240-pin DIMM layout for its DDR3 memory and provides 3.5-inch drive bays for SATA hard drives. This physical design determines which upgrades are possible, so verify that any added parts match the form factor and power budget before purchasing.

Questions about this item

Does the 265 W power supply limit GPU upgrades under sustained load?

The 265 W unit powers the i7-2600, 8 GB DDR3, 1 TB SATA drive and integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000; adding a discrete graphics card would exceed its capacity.

How loud and hot does the Mini Tower get when running all day?

The 265 W supply and integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 keep heat modest; the single system fan stays quiet during typical office workloads.

Is a monitor required to use this desktop?

Yes — no monitor is included, so you must connect your own display via the onboard video output.
