Ready-to-use desktop for home and student work

This Dell OptiPlex 990 SFF desktop arrives new with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and a USB keyboard and mouse in the box. An Intel 2nd Gen quad-core i5 running at 2.9 to 3.10 GHz with 3.40 GHz turbo boost handles everyday multitasking. The 8 GB DDR3 memory and 128 GB 2.5-inch SSD provide responsive application loading and enough space for essential files. Gigabit Ethernet and a WiFi USB adapter give flexible network connectivity.

Compact chassis runs cool and quiet for office tasks

The small form factor case fits limited desk space while the integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 and 64-bit quad-core processor draw modest power during typical document, web and video workloads. A DVD±RW drive adds legacy media access without increasing thermal load. Fan noise stays low in normal use, making the system suitable for shared rooms or quiet study areas. No discrete graphics card means lower sustained power draw and simpler airflow.

Included peripherals and OS remove setup friction

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is ready to use on first boot, eliminating separate licence purchase and installation time. The bundled USB keyboard and mouse let you start working immediately without extra accessories. The DVD±RW drive supports software installation from disc or data archiving to optical media. Maximum memory capacity reaches 16 GB DDR3 if future workloads demand more headroom. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance or larger internal storage should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

How do I add more memory to the OptiPlex 990 SFF, and which slot do people often miss?

Open the SFF case and insert DDR3 modules into the 240-pin DIMM slots; the board supports up to 16 GB total, so fill every slot before assuming the limit is reached.

What part will need replacement first if the DVD±RW drive is used regularly?

The optical drive's laser assembly wears out with frequent burning; a replacement half-height SFF DVD±RW unit is the only field-serviceable part for that function.

What thermal limit appears first when the Quad-Core i5 runs at 3.40 GHz Turbo Boost for extended periods?

The small form factor chassis restricts airflow, so the CPU hits its thermal throttle point before the cooler can dissipate the sustained turbo heat.
