A half-height blade server with dual 18-core Xeon Gold 6150 processors, 16GB DDR4, PERC H330 storage controller, two 960GB SATA SSDs, dual-port 10Gb networking and iDRAC9 Enterprise management
Installed Memory Size 16GB
SSD (Installed) 2 x 960GB SATA SSD
The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for high-density data-centre environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6150 processors, each delivering 18 cores at a base frequency of 2.7 GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.7 GHz. The system includes 16 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 DIMM slots and a PERC H330 storage controller managing two 960 GB SATA SSDs. A Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb network daughter card provides connectivity, while iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management.
This configuration replaces older single-socket or lower-core-count blades when workloads demand more parallel threads and larger memory capacity. The dual-processor design reaches the platform maximum of 56 cores per server, and the memory architecture supports up to 1.5 TB of DDR4 for virtualization or private-cloud consolidation. The jump is worth it when current blades saturate CPU or memory bandwidth and the chassis can supply adequate power and cooling for the higher thermal envelope.
Under continuous multi-threaded workloads the twin Xeon Gold 6150 CPUs maintain elevated frequencies within the blade's thermal limits, while the PERC H330 controller sustains RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 or 50 throughput to the dual SSDs. The 10 Gb network interfaces avoid bottlenecks during prolonged data movement between nodes. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides persistent telemetry so administrators can monitor temperature, power draw and memory health without interrupting production services.

Other versions of this model
The M640 half-height blade fits a PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis; no front bezel is included.
Both LGA 3647 processors and the 2× 8 GB DDR4 2666 MHz modules come pre-installed; the step often missed is seating the blade fully into the chassis mid-plane before locking the ejector handle.
The 2× 960 GB SATA SSDs and the H330 controller are rated for the server lifecycle; monitor SMART data and RAID alerts via iDRAC9 Enterprise to schedule replacement before wear-out.
