Half-height blade server with dual 24-core Xeon 8260 CPUs at 2.4 GHz, 128 GB DDR4, PERC H330 RAID controller, dual 10 Gb Ethernet and iDRAC9 Enterprise management
Installed Memory Size 128GB
SSD (Installed) No
The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for dense compute environments. Two Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 processors provide 24 cores each at a 2.4 GHz base frequency with 3.9 GHz turbo capability. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 slots. It mounts inside PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis for shared power and cooling.
This configuration suits teams running virtualization, private cloud or high-performance computing workloads that benefit from high core counts and fast memory. The dual 10 Gb network daughter card supports bandwidth-intensive east-west traffic. Buyers who need local NVMe storage or GPU acceleration should look elsewhere because the blade only accepts two 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives and has no PCIe expansion.
Storage is handled by a Dell PERC H330 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 across the two included 2.5-inch drive caddies. The controller operates at 12 Gb/s for SAS and SATA media. No drives are installed, so capacity and performance depend on the SSDs or HDDs you add. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides full remote management independent of the host operating system.

Other versions of this model
Slide the half-height blade into an empty bay until the latch clicks, then seat both 2.5-inch drive caddies; the step often missed is enabling the iDRAC9 Enterprise licence in the chassis management module before first boot.
The H330 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50; plan to replace any failed 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drive and rebuild the array, and check controller firmware during scheduled downtime.
The blade’s half-height cooling capacity and the shared chassis power budget will throttle the 24-core processors before memory or network bandwidth becomes a bottleneck.
