Single-socket 1U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R430 is a 1U rack-mount server built around one Intel Xeon E5-2603 v3 six-core processor running at 1.6 GHz with 48 GB of DDR4 memory. It ships with a Perc H730 RAID controller, three 300 GB 15K 6 Gbps SAS drives, a DVD-ROM drive and a single 550 W redundant power supply. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives and includes iDRAC8 remote management.

Teams needing dense shared storage in one rack unit

This server suits workloads that rely on SAS RAID arrays and can run within the 48 GB memory ceiling of the installed DIMMs. The single CPU and 48 GB limit mean it cannot serve applications that require dual-socket compute or larger memory footprints. Buyers who need more than eight drive bays or a second processor should look at other platforms.

Memory fixed at 48 GB DDR4

The system arrives with 48 GB of DDR4 already populating the 12 DIMM slots, and the supplier data lists the maximum supported capacity as 48 GB. No further memory expansion is possible without replacing the installed modules, so the memory ceiling is a hard constraint for any deployment.

Questions about this item

Does this server ship with both CPUs installed so I can use all 12 DIMM slots?

Only one Xeon E5-2603v3 is installed. The second socket is empty, so only the six DIMM slots belonging to the first processor are usable until a second CPU is added.

Will my existing 2.5-inch SATA drives work in the remaining hot-plug bays?

The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives. The three 300 GB SAS drives occupy three bays, leaving five open bays for your SATA drives.

How can I confirm the H730 controller is managing the three 300 GB drives in the RAID level I selected?

During POST press the key shown for the H730 configuration utility, or log into iDRAC8 and open the storage overview to see the virtual disk and its RAID status.
