1U rack server with dual Xeon processors

This 1U rack server ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2603v3 six-core processors running at 1.6GHz and 48GB of DDR4 memory. It is suited for small-business virtualisation, file serving or entry-level database workloads that fit within the installed memory ceiling. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug drives and includes a single 550W redundant power supply.

PERC H330 RAID controller with three 1TB drives

The bundled PERC H330 controller provides hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across the three factory-installed 1TB 7.2K SATA drives. The controller’s 12Gbps SAS interface also accommodates additional SAS or SATA drives should capacity needs grow. No operating system is included, so the RAID array must be configured during OS installation.

Memory ceiling and expansion slots to verify

The system’s memory is capped at 48GB across twelve DIMM slots, so further RAM upgrades are not possible without replacing existing modules. Only two PCIe 3.0 slots are available for add-in cards such as additional network adapters or storage controllers. Buyers needing more than eight drive bays, higher single-thread performance or GPU acceleration should evaluate larger chassis options.

Questions about this item

Will the 48 GB of DDR4 memory need to be replaced if I want more capacity later?

The server has 12 DIMM slots and currently uses 48 GB of DDR4. You can add modules up to the 384 GB maximum without removing the existing memory.

What limits sustained performance first when all eight 2.5-inch drive bays are populated?

The H330 RAID controller and 6 Gbps SATA drives set the throughput ceiling before the dual 1.6 GHz Xeon CPUs become the bottleneck.

How loud and hot does the 1U chassis get with the single 550 W redundant supply running continuously?

The 1U form factor uses high-speed fans to cool two Xeon CPUs and up to eight drives, so expect noticeable fan noise and warm exhaust air under constant load.
