Dell PowerEdge R530 2U rack server

This 2U rack server ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2603 V3 six-core processor at 1.6GHz and 16GB of DDR4 memory. It includes a PERC H730 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across up to eight 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays. Dual 750W redundant power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management are fitted as standard.

Suited for general-purpose workloads

The chassis provides twelve DIMM slots and supports a second processor, allowing memory to scale beyond the installed 16GB. Organisations needing more than one CPU or more than 16GB of memory in the current configuration should evaluate other platforms. The Matrox G200 graphics and four 1GbE ports limit GPU compute and high-speed networking use cases.

Eight 3.5-inch hot-plug bays with H730 RAID

The server accommodates up to eight 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives managed by the H730 controller with 1GB cache. Maximum raw capacity reaches 80TB using the supported RAID levels. Buyers planning solid-state tiers or drive counts beyond eight bays need a different chassis.

Questions about this item

What existing drives are compatible with the 8 x 3.5" hot-plug bays?

The bays accept 3.5" SAS or SATA hard drives; the PERC H730 controller supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 across those drives.

Will my current PCIe 2.0 expansion cards work in the available slots?

Two PCIe 2.0 slots are present alongside three PCIe 3.0 slots, so legacy PCIe 2.0 cards will operate at their native speed.

How can I verify the PERC H730 controller is healthy after installation?

Check the controller status in the iDRAC8 interface or during POST; a healthy H730 reports its 1 GB cache and 12 Gbps link without errors.
