2U rack server with ten-core Xeon at 2.3GHz, 8GB DDR4, two 2TB SAS drives and H730 RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 8GB
HDD 2 x 2TB SAS
The Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory across twelve DIMM slots and includes a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache. Two 2 TB 7.2K SAS drives occupy two of the eight hot-plug 3.5-inch bays, while dual 750 W redundant power supplies provide resiliency. The system also includes a DVD-ROM drive, iDRAC8 remote management and four 1 GbE network ports on a daughter card.
This configuration suits organisations that need a dense 2U platform with hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for up to eight SAS or SATA drives. The single-socket layout and 8 GB base memory limit immediate multi-tenant virtualisation density, so buyers who need two processors or larger memory footprints from day one should look at dual-socket configurations. The PCIe 3.0 and 2.0 slots support up to five expansion cards, but GPU-dense compute is not the design focus.
The installed Xeon E5-2650 v3 provides ten cores and twenty threads, yet the motherboard supports a maximum of two processors and only one is populated. Memory capacity per processor is six DIMM slots, so total system memory cannot exceed 384 GB without adding the second CPU. If the workload demands more than twenty threads or requires the full 384 GB ceiling immediately, the single-socket starting point becomes the decisive constraint.

Other versions of this model
The H730 controller supports up to 80 TB, while the chassis provides eight 3.5-inch hot-plug bays. With 2 TB drives installed, the bays reach 16 TB, leaving headroom for larger SAS or SATA drives before hitting the controller ceiling.
Two 750 W redundant supplies share the load, reducing per-unit stress and fan speed. The 2U rack form factor uses front-to-rear airflow, so sustained heat and noise stay within typical data-centre tolerances for this class.
A rail kit and a power cable are included in the box, so the server can be racked and connected to a PDU or UPS without extra purchases.
