2U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2609v3 CPUs, 16GB DDR4, H730 RAID controller and twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack-mount server system equipped with dual Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processors at 1.9GHz and 16GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. It includes a PERC H730 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, plus dual redundant 750W power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management. The chassis provides twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays for SAS or SATA drives.
This server suits organisations that need high internal capacity in a compact rack footprint for virtualisation, backup targets or software-defined storage clusters. Buyers who require more than twelve drive bays, faster network interfaces than the included four 1GbE ports, or a GPU-accelerated compute platform should evaluate alternative configurations.
The defining specification is the twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays combined with the H730 controller, which together determine how much raw storage can be installed and which RAID levels are available. Maximum supported capacity reaches 52TB, and the controller operates at 12Gbps for SAS and SATA media. This bay count and controller pairing dictate whether the platform matches the planned storage topology.

Other versions of this model
The chassis measures 26.8 inches deep, 17.44 inches wide and 3.4 inches high. It fits a standard 2U rack space. Rails and bezel are not included.
Two E5-2609v3 processors are already seated. DDR4 DIMMs populate the 24 slots, 12 per CPU; the common error is leaving slots on the second processor empty, which halves memory bandwidth.
The two 750W redundant power supplies and the hot-plug drive backplane are the primary field-replaceable units. The H730 RAID controller and system fans are also serviceable modules.
