Dual-socket Xeon server for dense storage workloads

The PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v3 processors, each running at 2.0 GHz with 14 cores. It ships with 768 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots and a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through. The chassis holds 24 hot-swap 2.5-inch SAS bays and includes two 300 GB 10K SAS drives.

Upgrade from single-socket or lower-core systems

Moving from a single-socket server or a platform with fewer than 28 total cores adds parallel throughput for virtualisation, database and HPC data-node roles. The jump is worth it when workloads exceed the memory ceiling or core count of an existing node and the 1.5 TB maximum capacity provides headroom.
