HDD 24 x 300GB 10K SAS
The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack system built for midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure, databases or high-performance computing nodes. It delivers dual-socket Xeon performance with 512GB of DDR4 memory and twenty-four drive bays in a compact chassis.
Two 750 Watt platinum-efficiency power supplies share the load and can be replaced without downtime. The 2U form factor uses forced-air cooling across dual Xeon E5-2620 v3 processors clocked at 2.4 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo, keeping thermals and noise within typical rack-room limits.
This configuration upgrades from systems limited to fewer drive slots or lower DDR4 capacity, adding twenty-four 300 GB 10K SAS drives and a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache. The jump is worth it when workloads demand dense local storage, hardware RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 and quad-port 1/10 GbE networking in a single 2U node.

Other versions of this model
Slide each 2.5" drive into the front hot-swap bays until the latch clicks, then use the iDRAC8 Enterprise interface or the H730 BIOS utility to create virtual disks before installing an OS; skipping RAID creation is the common oversight.
The 24 enterprise 300 GB 10K SAS drives and the H730 controller battery are the primary maintenance items; fans and the two 750 W power supplies are hot-swap but typically last longer.
The 2.4 GHz base clock across 12 total cores is the sustained ceiling; turbo to 3.2 GHz is opportunistic and limited by the 750 W supply headroom and thermal budget.
