The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server designed for workloads that demand high drive density and large memory capacity. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v3 processors, each running at 2.0 GHz with 14 cores. The system includes 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 modules. Twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with 300 GB 10K SAS hard drives.

Suited for database and virtualisation nodes

This configuration fits midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure or high-performance computing data nodes. The PERC H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with a 1 GB cache. Quad-port networking provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections. Buyers who require solid-state media, GPU compute or a different drive count should evaluate other platforms.

24-bay 2.5-inch SAS chassis

The defining specification is the 24-bay 2.5-inch front panel that accepts SAS and SATA drives. It determines how many spindles or solid-state devices can be installed internally without external enclosures. The H730 controller manages those drives through a 12 Gb/s SAS backplane.
