2U rack server with dual 16-core Xeon CPUs, 64GB DDR4, 24-bay SAS storage and PERC H730 RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 64GB
HDD 24 x 300GB 10K SAS
This 2U rack server ships with twenty-four 300 GB 10K SAS drives managed by a PERC H730 controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors provide thirty-two cores at 2.1 GHz with 3.0 GHz turbo, while 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory occupies four of twenty-four slots. Quad-port networking adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links, and iDRAC8 Enterprise enables full remote management.
Database nodes, virtual-desktop hosts and HPC data nodes benefit from the large SAS array and dual-processor throughput. Buyers who require solid-state media should look elsewhere because the configuration ships with spinning SAS disks only. Organisations needing more than 1.5 TB of memory or more than two processors cannot expand this platform further.
The combination of two sixteen-core CPUs and twenty-four hot-swap bays defines whether this server matches the workload. If the application scales across thirty-two threads and fills the drive count, the R730xd is the right part.
Measured against everything we stock in Rack & Tower Servers, at today’s prices. Recalculated every night.

Other versions of this model
The 2U chassis uses redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and multiple hot-swap fans; under sustained load the fans spin up to keep the two 16-core processors and 24 drive bays within thermal limits, so expect noticeable rack-level noise.
The server ships with 24 Dell 300 GB 10 K SAS drives installed in the hot-swap carriers; no extra carriers or SAS cables are required for the factory configuration.
The H730 supports SAS and SATA in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through, while iDRAC8 Enterprise provides remote monitoring and firmware updates for mixed drive sets.
