2U rack server with twelve hot-plug bays

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits a standard 2U rack space and provides twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays for SAS or SATA media. A single Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor runs at 1.9 GHz on the Intel C610 chipset. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across twenty-four DIMM slots, with memory speed dependent on the processor capability. The system ships without an operating system.

H330 RAID controller and three 4 TB SAS drives

A Dell PERC H330 12 Gbps RAID controller manages the included three 4 TB 7.2K SAS drives and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. The controller occupies a dedicated slot, leaving up to six PCIe 3.0 expansion slots available for additional cards. Hot-plug trays are supplied with the drives, allowing replacement without shutting down the server. Maximum raw capacity across all bays reaches 52 TB.

Dual 750 W redundant supplies

Two 750 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy so the server remains running if one unit fails. A DVD-ROM drive is fitted for media installation. Networking defaults to a daughter card with four 1 GbE ports, with optional 10 GbE upgrades available. Integrated iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller enables remote monitoring, firmware updates and power control over a dedicated management port.

Questions about this item

What DDR4 memory modules and how many slots are available for future upgrades?

The system has 24 DDR4 DIMM slots supporting 4GB to 128GB modules up to 2400MT/s, with actual speed dependent on the installed Xeon E5-2609v3 processor capability.

How many 3.5-inch drive bays remain free after the three installed 4TB SAS drives?

Nine 3.5-inch hot-plug bays remain open for additional SAS or SATA drives, giving a maximum raw capacity of 52TB when fully populated.

What is the power draw and thermal load of the dual 750W redundant supplies under continuous operation?

Two 750W redundant power supplies share the load; each unit draws only what the components require, so sustained heat and fan noise scale with actual CPU, memory and drive utilisation.
