Built for dense storage workloads

The PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server designed for environments that need many drives in a compact chassis. It suits teams running local databases, backup targets or virtualisation hosts where drive count matters more than raw CPU frequency.

Single E5-2609 v3 limits headroom

One six-core Xeon at 1.9 GHz is installed with 8 GB of DDR4 across 24 DIMM slots. The chipset caps official memory speed at 2400 MT/s and the board only supports one processor unless a second kit is sourced separately.

Rails and cabling take the time

Sliding rails must be fitted to a four-post rack before the 26.8-inch deep chassis slides in. The H330 controller uses a dedicated slot so all six PCIe 3.0 slots stay free, but the 3.5-inch drive trays are not included with the three 300 GB SAS drives.

Questions about this item

How does the single E5-2609 v3 at 1.9 GHz perform once installed?

The six-core Xeon E5-2609 v3 runs at 1.9 GHz and provides the base compute for this 2U server; a second processor can be added later using the second socket on the C610 chipset.

What does the H330 12 Gbps RAID controller limit in practice?

The Perc H330 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across the 24 x 2.5-inch hot-plug bays and caps each drive at 6 Gbps SAS or SATA speeds.

What physical space and mounting does the 2U chassis require?

The chassis measures 26.8 x 17.44 x 3.4 inches, weighs 60 lbs and occupies 2U in a standard rack; sliding rails are needed for installation.
