The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server populated with four Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.6 GHz with 16 cores and reaches 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules. It targets organisations running mission-critical workloads that demand high core counts and large memory capacity in a dense form factor.

3U Chassis With Redundant Power

The server occupies three rack units and includes ready rails plus a front bezel for straightforward installation. Two hot-swap 1600 watt platinum power supplies provide redundancy without downtime. The PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages up to eight 2.5 inch SATA or SAS drives and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The four-socket design is already at its processor limit, so compute growth must come from memory or storage additions.
