Dual 16-core Xeon server with 128 GB DDR4, H730 RAID controller and eight 3.5-inch drive trays in a 5U tower
The Dell PowerEdge T430 is a 5U tower chassis that ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores and a 3.0 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4-2400 registered ECC memory across eight modules and a PERC H730 storage controller with 1 GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Two hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundant power and the integrated Broadcom 5720 dual-port 1 GbE LOM handles network connectivity.
This configuration targets workgroup collaboration, mail, messaging, file and print serving, and web serving in small offices or remote branch locations. The eight 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drive trays and 12 memory slots allow local storage and memory expansion up to 384 GB. Buyers who need GPU compute density, larger memory footprints or more than two processor sockets should evaluate other platforms. The system arrives without hard drives or plastic feet, so those items must be sourced separately.
The installed Dell PERC H730 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller is the single component that defines the storage capabilities of this server. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode and includes a battery-backed 1 GB cache for write acceleration and data protection during power loss. All eight front-accessible 3.5-inch bays connect to this controller, so the RAID level and drive selection determine usable capacity, redundancy and performance.

Other versions of this model
Eight 3.5-inch trays are supplied and each tray accepts SATA or SAS hard drives.
Install the first processor into socket CPU1 before populating CPU2; the system will not boot if only the second socket is filled.
Four of the twelve DDR4 slots are still open, allowing expansion up to 384 GB total memory.
