Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th-generation Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor. It pairs 16 GB of DDR4 memory with a dual-drive layout: a 128 GB M.2 SSD and a 2 TB SSD. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 GPU with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory drives the 3840 x 2160 UHD IPS touchscreen. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed.

Suited to colour-critical creative work

The 72% colour-gamut InfinityEdge display and Quadro P1000 make this machine a fit for designers, engineers and video editors who need accurate colour and ISV-certified drivers on the move. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 support external monitors and fast peripherals. Buyers who want more system memory than 16 GB or a higher-wattage GPU for heavy 3D rendering should look at larger chassis workstations.

Thermal behaviour under load

Dual fans and a vapour-chamber design move heat away from the CPU and GPU during extended compile, render or simulation sessions. The hexa-core i7-8850H can sustain elevated clocks longer than in thinner ultraportables, though surface temperatures on the platinum-silver deck will rise noticeably. Fan noise remains audible but controlled, letting the system hold performance without hard throttling during multi-hour workloads.

Questions about this item

Do I need to buy a Thunderbolt dock to use the Thunderbolt 3 port on this Precision 5530?

The port works with any Thunderbolt 3 cable or device; a dock is optional and only needed if you want extra ports or charging from one connection.

Will the HDMI 2.0 port drive a 4K monitor at 60 Hz while the built-in 3840 x 2160 panel stays active?

Yes, HDMI 2.0 supports 4K at 60 Hz, so an external 4K display can run alongside the internal UHD touchscreen.

How can I verify the NVIDIA Quadro P1000 with 4GB GDDR5 is active after Windows 10 Pro boots?

Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, and confirm Quadro P1000 appears; the NVIDIA Control Panel will also show 4 GB dedicated video memory.
