ThinkPad X240 Ultrabook i7-4600U

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5" business ultrabook built for mobile professionals. It runs Windows 8.1 Pro on an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB DDR3 RAM. A 128GB SSD provides fast storage. The HD IPS display offers a 1366 x 768 resolution.

Who it suits and who should look elsewhere

This ultrabook suits users needing a light, MIL-SPEC tested chassis with a spill-resistant backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader. Bluetooth 4.0 supports wireless peripherals. Buyers who want more storage or a higher resolution touchscreen should look elsewhere.

Deciding specification: 128GB SSD

The 128GB solid state drive is the single specification that decides fit. It determines how many applications and files you can keep locally without external drives. If your workload exceeds this capacity, the X240 will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

Does the X240 need any extra memory modules to reach its listed 8GB of DDR3?

No, the laptop already includes 8GB of DDR3 RAM soldered on board, so no additional modules are required.

Will my existing USB 2.0 flash drives and mouse work with the two USB ports on this X240?

Yes, the two USB ports are backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices, so your current flash drives and mouse will function normally.

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-4600U is running at its maximum 3.3 GHz turbo speed after setup?

Open Task Manager in Windows 8.1 Pro, select the Performance tab, and watch the CPU frequency reach 3.3 GHz during a heavy single-thread workload.
