15.6-inch 2-in-1 workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 2-in-1 is a 15.6-inch convertible workstation running Windows 10 Pro. It combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8706G processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe SSD. The 15.69-inch FHD touchscreen delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution with 72% colour gamut coverage.

Suited for mobile ISV work; not for memory upgrades

Professionals running certified ISV applications on the move benefit from the quad-core processor and dedicated AMD Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL graphics with 4 GB GDDR5 video memory. The 3.10 GHz base clock reaches 4.10 GHz with Turbo Boost. Buyers who need more than 16 GB of RAM should look elsewhere because the memory slots are fully populated and max memory supported is 16 GB.

16 GB soldered memory limit

The single decisive specification is the 16 GB DDR4 configuration with zero available slots and a 16 GB maximum. This fixed capacity determines whether the system can handle your dataset or virtual machines without paging.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-8706G is boosting to 4.10 GHz under load?

Open Task Manager Performance tab while running a heavy workload and watch the CPU frequency climb toward 4.10 GHz; the quad-core processor with 8 MB cache should sustain higher clocks when thermals allow.

What accessories are included and what must I purchase separately for full connectivity?

The box contains the 65-watt AC adapter; the system already provides two Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-C 3.1 ports with PowerShare and DisplayPort, one HDMI 2.0 port and a headset jack, so only specialised dongles or legacy USB-A hubs would be extra.

Which configuration suits a mobile workstation workflow — the 16 GB DDR4 and 256 GB NVMe SSD or a larger capacity?

The 16 GB DDR4 (single module, no free slots) and 256 GB NVMe SSD are fixed; if your projects exceed 16 GB RAM or 256 GB storage, you would need external Thunderbolt 3 storage because internal upgrades are not possible.
