Precision 5530 2-in-1 workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.69" convertible workstation built for mobile professionals who need a touch-enabled FHD display and dedicated graphics in a silver chassis. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8706G with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 4 TB NVMe SSD.

Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C port constraints

Two Thunderbolt 3 ports and two USB-C 3.1 ports share DisplayPort and power delivery, so a single cable can drive an external display while charging the system. The HDMI 2.0 output adds a second video path, but the four USB-C style connectors are the only high-speed expansion interface.

16 GB soldered memory limit

Memory is fixed at 16 GB DDR4 with no available slots, so the configuration cannot be upgraded after purchase. Buyers who need more than 16 GB for large datasets or virtual machines must choose a different platform.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 16 GB DDR4 configuration or is there a larger memory option for the Precision 5530?

The system ships with 16 GB DDR4 in a single module and the motherboard supports a maximum of 16 GB, so no larger memory option exists for this model.

How does the i7-8706G running at 3.10 GHz with 4.10 GHz Turbo Boost perform inside this 15.6-inch convertible chassis?

The quad-core processor reaches 4.10 GHz under load while the dedicated Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL with 4 GB GDDR5 handles graphics, delivering workstation-class speed in the 2-in-1 form factor.

What can the two Thunderbolt 3 ports actually drive in terms of display and data?

Each Thunderbolt 3 port supports DisplayPort output and PowerShare charging, allowing dual 4K displays or high-speed peripherals through the USB-C connectors.
