Precision mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor and NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics. It targets engineers, designers and analysts who need certified ISV performance in a thin, silver chassis that meets MIL-STD durability tests.

Dual-fan cooling with Thunderbolt 3

A dual-fan thermal system moves air across the CPU and the 4 GB GDDR5 Quadro to keep clocks stable under sustained loads. The 128 GB PCIe NVMe SSD and 16 GB DDR4 memory draw modest power, while Thunderbolt 3 provides up to 40 Gb/s bandwidth for external GPUs or storage without adding internal heat.

InfinityEdge touch display and port mix

The 3840 x 2160 UHD IPS touch panel covers 72 % colour gamut and fits in a narrow-bezel InfinityEdge frame. Connectivity includes two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one HDMI 2.0 output, a headset jack and the Thunderbolt 3 port, supporting docks, 4K monitors and fast peripherals from a single cable.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Dell AC adapter and Thunderbolt 3 cable so the Precision 5530 charges and drives an external display?

Connect the barrel plug of the Dell AC adapter to the power port on the left side; then plug a Thunderbolt 3 cable into the USB-C port marked with a lightning icon — that single port carries power, video and data.

Which components inside the Precision 5530 can I replace later, and what are the maximum supported capacities?

The M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD can be swapped for a larger drive up to 1 TB; the two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots support up to 32 GB total memory. The NVIDIA Quadro P1000 GPU is soldered and not replaceable.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-8850H runs at 4.30 GHz under sustained heavy load?

The dual-fan cooling system reaches its airflow capacity, causing the CPU to throttle below 4.30 GHz to maintain safe temperatures.
