Precision 5530 Mobile Workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor. It pairs 16 GB of DDR4 memory with dual M.2 storage comprising a 128 GB drive and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics card with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory drives the 1920 x 1080 IPS display.

Suits CAD and 3D modelling.

This configuration suits engineers and designers running CAD, BIM or light 3D modelling workloads that benefit from certified Quadro drivers. The six-core CPU and 16 GB RAM handle multitasking across professional applications. Buyers who need more video memory for large assemblies or GPU render farms should look at a workstation with a higher-tier graphics card.

Quadro P1000 4 GB GDDR5 decides fit

The single specification that determines whether this is the right part is the NVIDIA Quadro P1000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory. It provides certified stability for professional viewports and light compute tasks. If your workflow demands more frame buffer or compute cores, this GPU will be the limiting factor.

Questions about this item

How hot or loud does the Precision 5530 get when the i7-8850H runs at 4.30 GHz all day?

The workstation uses a dual-fan cooling system designed to improve airflow and keep the system cool under sustained heavy workloads.

Which cables or docks must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports on this 5530?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the USB-C port and a standard HDMI 2.0 cable for the HDMI output.

Will my older SATA SSD work alongside the 128 GB and 1 TB NVMe drives already installed?

The specifications list only M.2 NVMe storage with no SATA drive bay mentioned, so a SATA SSD cannot be added internally.
