Workstation for professional workloads

The Dell Precision 5820 Tower is built for engineers, designers and analysts who need reliable multi-threaded performance. An Intel Xeon W-2145 processor with eight cores at 3.7GHz and a 4.5GHz turbo frequency drives demanding CAD, simulation and rendering tasks. The system includes 64GB of DDR4 2666MHz registered ECC memory and a 500GB NVMe solid-state drive for fast project loading.

Straightforward component access

The mid-tower chassis uses a tool-less layout so memory modules, the M.2 drive and the Quadro P2000 graphics card can be swapped without special tools. Registered ECC DIMMs must be installed in matched sets to maintain stability, and the 160-bit GPU requires two PCIe power connectors from the 950W 80 Plus Gold supply. Builders who need more storage bays or a second full-length card will find the internal space limited.

Platform limits for expansion

The LGA 2066 platform supports up to 256GB of DDR4 across eight slots, so the current 64GB configuration leaves room for growth. The Quadro P2000 provides 5GB of GDDR5 memory and four DisplayPort outputs, which suits multi-monitor setups but does not drive higher-resolution panels beyond its native capability. The single onboard Gigabit Ethernet port and integrated audio cover basic connectivity without additional cards.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the Intel Xeon W-2145 is reaching its 4.5GHz turbo speed under load?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab or a tool like HWMonitor while running a heavy workload and watch the CPU frequency climb toward 4.5GHz on all eight cores.

What components are included and what must I add to start working?

The tower ships with the Xeon W-2145, 64GB DDR4 2666MHz ECC memory in four 16GB modules, a 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD, Quadro P2000 with four DisplayPort outputs, 950W 80 Plus Gold PSU and Windows 11 Pro; you only need to supply a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Which memory configuration should I choose if I want to expand toward the 256GB maximum later?

The four 16GB registered ECC DIMMs occupy half of the eight DDR4 2666 slots, leaving four free slots so you can add matching 16GB or 32GB modules up to the 256GB limit.
