Dell Precision 5820 Tower Workstation

The Dell Precision 5820 is a mid-tower workstation built around an Intel Xeon W-2225 processor running at 4.1 GHz with a 4.6 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 64 GB of registered ECC DDR4 memory and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed for immediate professional deployment.

Thermals noise and power draw

A 950 W 80 Plus Gold power supply rated at 90 percent efficiency delivers stable power to the four-core CPU and Nvidia NVS 310 graphics card. The tower chassis is designed for sustained workloads in typical office environments. No liquid cooling or specialised acoustic dampening is mentioned in the specifications.

Nvidia NVS 310 graphics constraint

The included Nvidia NVS 310 provides 512 MB of DDR3 video memory and dual DisplayPort outputs for basic multi-monitor productivity. It is not suited for GPU-accelerated rendering, compute workloads or modern 3D applications. Buyers requiring higher graphics performance will need a different solution.

Questions about this item

How do I install extra DDR4 memory in the Precision 5820 tower, and which step is often missed?

Open the mid-tower case, locate the eight DDR4 slots, and insert registered ECC modules at 2666MHz; the step often missed is seating each module until both side clips click audibly.

What maintenance or replacement will the 950 watt 80 Plus Gold power supply need later?

The 950 watt 80 Plus Gold unit is rated for continuous operation; plan to replace it only if fan noise increases or voltages drift after several years of heavy workloads.

What thermal limit appears first on the Xeon W-2225 during sustained all-core loads?

The 4.6GHz turbo frequency cannot be held indefinitely; the processor will throttle to its 4.1GHz base clock once the 950 watt power supply and tower cooling reach thermal equilibrium.
