Precision 5820 Xeon workstation

The Dell Precision 5820 Tower is a mid-tower desktop built around an Intel Xeon W-2123 3.6 GHz processor with a 3.9 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four slots and a 500 GB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and activated.

Sustained load on 950 W Gold supply

A 950 watt 80 Plus Gold certified power supply rated at 90 % efficiency feeds the four-core CPU and Nvidia Quadro P600 graphics card with 2 GB GDDR5 memory. The chassis uses a mid-tower form factor with standard airflow paths to maintain stable thermals during extended compute or visualisation sessions. Registered ECC memory helps preserve data integrity under continuous workloads.

Upgrades from smaller ECC configurations

This system replaces desktops limited to 16 GB or 32 GB of non-ECC memory when error correction and larger datasets become necessary. The eight available DIMM slots support expansion up to 256 GB total capacity. It is not suited for buyers who need more than four CPU cores or graphics cards beyond the single Quadro P600 with its four DisplayPort outputs.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power does the 950 W 80 Plus Gold supply draw when the Xeon W-2123 runs at 3.9 GHz Turbo all day?

The 950 W unit is 80 Plus Gold certified at 90% efficiency, so sustained full-load heat output stays proportional to the 3.9 GHz Turbo draw without exceeding the supply's rated capacity.

Which display cables must I already own to use the Quadro P600's four DisplayPort outputs?

The card provides four DisplayPort connectors, so you need up to four DisplayPort cables or DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapters matching your monitors' inputs.

Will my existing DDR4-2666 ECC modules fit the eight memory slots alongside the installed 64 GB?

Yes, the board has eight DDR4 slots supporting up to 256 GB total, so registered ECC DDR4-2666 sticks can be added to the four populated slots.
