Mobile workstation for professionals

The Dell Precision 7550 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need desktop-level performance while travelling. It runs on a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10850H six-core processor with twelve threads and 12 MB cache. The system includes 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 2 TB NVMe PCIe SSD. An NVIDIA Quadro T2000 with 4 GB of GDDR6 graphics handles certified CAD and creative applications.

Thermals and power in daily use

The processor operates at a 45 W base power rating and reaches up to 2.70 GHz during demanding workloads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles light tasks to reduce discrete GPU usage. The laptop ships with an OEM AC adapter matched to the system's power requirements. Fan behaviour scales with CPU and GPU load during rendering or data analysis sessions.

Build integration and expandability

The chassis provides two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports with PowerShare and two Thunderbolt 3 Type-C ports for high-speed peripherals. External display connections include Mini DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0. An SD card reader, RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet and HD webcam are built in. Memory can be expanded up to 64 GB and the M.2 slot supports additional NVMe storage. Wireless connectivity uses 802.11ac with Bluetooth.

Questions about this item

How do I install additional DDR4 memory in the Precision 7550 and which step is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover, insert SODIMM modules into the two slots until they click, then replace the cover; the step often missed is seating both sticks fully so the clips lock on each side.

Which component will need replacement first and what is its rated capacity?

The 2 TB NVMe SSD is the only user-replaceable storage device; its write endurance determines lifespan and a fresh drive of equal or larger capacity can be installed later.

What power limit throttles the i7-10850H during prolonged heavy loads?

The processor is rated at 45 W; sustained workloads that hold all six cores at high frequency will hit this package power limit first, reducing clocks until thermal headroom returns.
