Mobile workstation for CAD and data tasks

The Dell Precision 7550 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built around a six-core Intel Core i7-10850H processor and an NVIDIA Quadro T2000 graphics card with 4GB GDDR6 memory. It ships with 16GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD running Windows 11 Pro. The Full HD non-touch display and ISV certifications target engineers, designers and analysts who need certified application stability on the move.

Sustained 45 W processor performance

The 45 W six-core CPU maintains higher clocks during long rendering, simulation or compilation sessions than ultrabook-class chips, while the Quadro T2000 provides certified drivers for CAD and visualisation workloads. Thunderbolt 3 ports and an SD reader support fast external storage ingest, and the 16GB DDR4 can be expanded to 64GB for larger datasets. Thermal design aims to keep both CPU and GPU stable under continuous multi-threaded load.

Check memory slots, storage bays

Verify whether the two SODIMM slots are both populated or if one is free for a simple upgrade to the 64GB maximum. Confirm the single M.2 PCIe slot meets your capacity needs or plan for external Thunderbolt 3 storage. Ensure Mini DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 match your external monitors, and that the 802.11ac wireless and Gigabit Ethernet satisfy your network environment before ordering.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Precision 7550 get when the i7-10850H runs at its 45 W power limit for hours?

The six-core processor is rated at 45 W; under sustained load the dual-fan cooling will spin up audibly and the chassis near the rear vents becomes warm to the touch.

What must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 ports on this Precision 7550?

A Thunderbolt 3 cable and a compatible dock, monitor or storage device are required; the ports also accept standard USB-C accessories.

Will my older Mini DisplayPort 1.2 monitor work with the Precision 7550's Mini DisplayPort 1.4 output?

Yes, the 1.4 port is backward compatible and will drive a 1.2 display at up to 1920 x 1080 resolution.
