17.3" FHD Mobile Workstation

This new Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation with a 1920 x 1080 IPS display. It runs on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor reaching 4.10 GHz with Turbo Boost. The system includes 128 GB DDR4 RAM and a 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. Windows 10 Pro is installed.

Suits CAD, not ultra-portable needs

The NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 memory handles professional CAD and 3D applications. Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0, and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports support docking and external displays. Buyers who need a lighter chassis for frequent travel or longer battery runtime should look at smaller ultraportable models instead.

128 GB NVMe SSD capacity

The single 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD determines how much data you can keep on-board without external drives. Larger projects or multi-boot setups will require additional storage. No 2.5-inch drive bay is populated, so expansion depends on available M.2 slots.

Questions about this item

What display interface does the Thunderbolt 3 port support and what resolution does it cap at?

The Thunderbolt 3 port carries DisplayPort 1.2 signals and can drive an external monitor up to 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, matching the built-in FHD panel.

What physical drive slot does the 128 GB SSD occupy and what form factor must a replacement use?

The 128 GB SSD is a PCIe NVMe M.2 2280 module installed in the single M.2 slot; any replacement must be an M.2 2280 NVMe drive.

How is the NVMe SSD installed and which step do builders often skip?

Remove the base cover, insert the M.2 2280 drive at a 30-degree angle into the keyed slot, then secure it with the single retention screw; the step often missed is fastening that screw before reassembly.
