Mobile workstation for CAD and 3D design

The Dell Precision 7730 pairs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 16 GB DDR4 RAM and an NVIDIA Quadro P3200 GPU with 6 GB GDDR5 video memory. A 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD provides fast storage for project files. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed on the 17.3" FHD IPS panel.

Buyers who need certified drivers for professional

This laptop suits engineers, architects and designers running CAD, BIM or DCC software that relies on Quadro-certified drivers and 6 GB dedicated video memory. Buyers who want consumer gaming features or higher frame rates in entertainment titles should look elsewhere, as the professional GPU is optimised for stability in certified workflows.

Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 decides suitability

The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics card with 6 GB GDDR5 memory is the specification that determines whether this system matches your workload. Applications requiring larger VRAM buffers or newer architecture features will need a different mobile workstation configuration.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 256 GB SSD or a larger 512 GB option for this 7730?

The 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD is the only capacity listed for this unit; larger drives are mentioned as available selections on other configurations.

What does the i7-8750H at 2.20 GHz up to 4.10 GHz actually deliver in this chassis?

It provides six cores and twelve threads with an 8 MB cache, giving workstation-class multi-thread performance for CAD and rendering tasks.

How does the Thunderbolt 3 port limit external display or storage speed on this Precision?

Thunderbolt 3 caps at 40 Gb/s, so a single 4K 60 Hz monitor or a high-speed NVMe enclosure will run at full rated throughput.
