Mobile Workstation for CAD Professionals

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for engineers and designers who need certified graphics in a portable chassis. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 64 GB of DDR4 memory. The non-touch FHD IPS panel covers 72% colour gamut for accurate visual work.

Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5 Graphics

The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 video memory is the specification that determines suitability for professional 3D applications. It is optimised for computer-aided design workloads and offers performance comparable to a GeForce GTX 1060. Buyers who need higher VRAM for large assemblies or GPU rendering should consider other configurations.

Straightforward Deployment with Port Constraints

The system arrives with the operating system installed and a Dell AC adapter included, so it is ready to use immediately. Connectivity includes two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port and HDMI 2.0 for external displays. The single Thunderbolt 3 port may limit simultaneous high-speed peripheral and display connections for some desk setups.

Questions about this item

How does the six-core i7-8750H at 2.20 GHz with 4.10 GHz turbo perform in a 17.3 inch mobile workstation?

The 8th Gen hexa-core processor delivers 12 threads and up to 4.10 GHz turbo frequency, providing strong multi-threaded throughput for CAD, rendering and heavy multitasking within the Precision 7730 chassis.

What does the single Thunderbolt 3 port and HDMI 2.0 output cap in practice?

Thunderbolt 3 supplies 40 Gbps bandwidth for docks, external GPUs and dual 4K displays, while HDMI 2.0 drives one 4K panel at 60 Hz; both share the GPU so total external resolution is limited by the Quadro P3200.

Will the 17.3 inch FHD IPS panel and 64 GB DDR4 fit a standard laptop backpack or docking station?

The 17.3 inch chassis fits most large laptop backpacks and Precision docks; the 64 GB DDR4 is installed internally in four SO-DIMM slots, and the 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD occupies one M.2 slot leaving room for a second drive.
