Professional mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 7740 is a 17.3-inch laptop built for engineers and creators who need certified graphics on the move. It pairs a six-core Intel Core i7-9750H processor with 32GB of DDR4-2666 memory and a 1TB NVMe solid-state drive. The NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 GPU provides 8GB of GDDR6 video memory for CAD, simulation and rendering workloads. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Thunderbolt 3 and display outputs

Two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports deliver up to 40Gbps for external GPUs, storage arrays or dual 4K monitors. A full-size HDMI 2.0 port and a Mini DisplayPort 1.4 connection drive additional displays without adapters. Wired networking uses a single RJ45 jack while wireless relies on Wi-Fi 6 with 160MHz channel support. Bluetooth 5.0 handles peripherals.

Memory and storage headroom

The 32GB kit (two 16GB modules) fills both SO-DIMM slots, so any upgrade requires replacing the existing sticks. The single M.2 PCIe NVMe Class 50 drive offers fast boot and project loading, but only one such slot is present; a second high-speed drive cannot be added internally. The 97Wh battery supports long sessions away from the 240W power adapter.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 32GB DDR4 2666 configuration or look for a different capacity?

The laptop ships with 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2666 installed. Four SODIMM slots are available, so you can expand later if workloads demand more memory.

What does the i7-9750H 4.50 GHz turbo mean for daily CAD and rendering tasks?

Six cores and a 4.50 GHz max turbo give strong single-thread speed for interactive modelling, while the 45 W base power keeps sustained multi-core performance stable during long renders.

How fast is the Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C interface for external storage and displays?

Two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide up to 40 Gbps bandwidth, driving dual 4K displays or NVMe RAID enclosures at full PCIe speed.
