17.3" FHD Precision Workstation

The Dell Precision M6700 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation with a Full HD 1920 x 1080 anti-glare display. It runs on an Intel Core i7-3740QM quad-core processor at 2.7 GHz with 6 MB L3 cache. The system includes 16 GB of DDR3L memory, a 256 GB SSD and a 1 TB hard drive. NVIDIA Quadro K3000M graphics with 4 GB DDR5 video memory drive the visuals. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Suited for legacy ISV workloads.

This laptop suits engineers maintaining certified ISV applications that rely on the Quadro K3000M driver stack and the 3rd-generation Intel core architecture. The dual-drive layout gives fast boot and application load from the SSD while the 1 TB HDD stores large datasets. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a higher native panel resolution, or a newer processor instruction set should look elsewhere. The 240 W AC adapter and DVDRW drive are included.

Quadro K3000M with 4 GB DDR5 VRAM

The discrete NVIDIA Quadro K3000M GPU with 4 GB of dedicated DDR5 video memory is the specification that determines fitness for purpose. It provides certified OpenGL performance for professional 3D CAD and DCC applications written for that generation of Quadro drivers. Systems relying solely on the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 will not deliver the same viewport stability or driver certification for those workloads.

Questions about this item

What size drive bays does the 17.3" Precision M6700 use for its 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD?

Both drives are 2.5-inch form factor; the SSD holds the Windows 10 Pro install and the HDD adds 1000GB of extra storage.

Which screw or latch must be released first when swapping the DDR3L memory modules on this workstation?

Remove the bottom service-panel screws, lift the panel, then release the two side latches on each SO-DIMM slot — skipping the panel screws is the step most people miss.

Which user-replaceable parts will need attention after several years of daily use on the M6700?

The 240W AC adapter and the internal battery are the primary consumables; the DVDRW drive and keyboard backlight may also wear out over time.
