Dell Precision T1700 Workstation Tower

The Dell Precision T1700 is a tower workstation built around a 4th generation Intel Core i7-4770 quad-core processor running at 3.4 GHz with a turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz. It comes with 16 GB of DDR3 1600 memory and a dual-drive layout combining a 512 GB solid-state drive with a 500 GB hard drive. Intel HD Graphics 4600 drives up to three 4K monitors through two DisplayPort outputs and one VGA port. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Suits professionals running certified ISV

This system suits engineers and designers who rely on ISV-certified applications such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Creo and need triple-monitor 4K output from integrated graphics. The 290 W power supply and tower form factor limit discrete graphics upgrades, so buyers who need dedicated GPU acceleration for rendering, simulation or modern gaming should look at a workstation with a larger power budget and PCIe power connectors.

290 W power supply constrains graphics upgrades

The single most decisive specification is the 290 W power supply, which restricts the system to integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 and prevents the installation of most discrete graphics cards. If your workflow demands a dedicated GPU, this chassis and power budget will not support it; if integrated graphics and certified application stability are sufficient, the platform delivers reliable performance.

Questions about this item

Will the tower POST and show the Windows 10 Pro desktop on all three monitors using the two DisplayPort and one VGA outputs?

After connecting power and pressing the front button the system will POST, load Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and the Intel HD Graphics 4600 will drive up to three 4K displays simultaneously via the two DisplayPort and one VGA ports.

Which accessories are included in the box and which must be purchased separately?

The tower ships with a power cable, Windows 10 Pro licence and recovery media; a monitor, keyboard, mouse and any additional DisplayPort or VGA cables are not included and must be bought separately.

Should I choose the 512 GB SSD plus 500 GB HDD configuration or a single larger drive?

The 512 GB SSD provides fast boot and application load times while the 500 GB HDD adds bulk storage for large project files, giving a balanced combination of speed and capacity in one system.
