DELL

DELL W347K 600GB 3.5" 15000RPM SAS HDD accessory

SKU CH-MF4M-ZGXX8 MPN W347K

A 600 GB 3.5-inch 15000 RPM SAS hard drive with 16 MB cache and hot-swap support for servers

  • 600 GB capacity stores large enterprise datasets
  • 15 000 RPM spindle delivers rapid data access
  • SAS interface connects directly to server backplanes
  • 16 MB cache buffers burst workloads efficiently
  • Hot-swap tray enables drive replacement without downtime

Enterprise SAS Storage

The Dell W347K is a 600 GB 3.5 inch hard drive built for server environments that demand consistent throughput. Its SAS interface and 15 000 RPM spindle speed suit databases and transactional workloads where latency matters. Hot-swap capability allows drive replacement without powering down the chassis. This unit is not for desktop PCs lacking a SAS controller or backplane.

Capacity and Headroom

Six hundred gigabytes provide room for operating systems, application binaries and active data sets in a single spindle. The 16 MB cache absorbs burst writes and smooths read-ahead patterns during heavy queue depths. Workloads that exceed this capacity will require additional drives or a move to larger-capacity SAS models.

Thermals Noise and Power

Fifteen thousand RPM operation generates more heat and acoustic output than slower near-line drives, so adequate chassis airflow is essential. Power draw rises under sustained random I/O, reflecting the mechanical demands of high-speed platters. Noise levels are typical for enterprise 15 K SAS drives in a ventilated server rack.

Questions about this item

Will the 15000RPM SAS drive work in my older server that only has 3Gb SAS backplanes?

The drive uses a SAS interface and will negotiate down to the backplane speed, so it will function on a 3Gb link although throughput will be limited to that rate.

How can I verify the drive is running at its full 15000RPM after installation?

Check the drive’s reported rotation speed in the RAID controller BIOS or operating system utilities; it should show 15000RPM and the SAS link should report a 6G connection.

Does the W347K ship with a mounting tray or caddy, or do I need to order one separately?

The drive is supplied as a bare 3.5" mechanism; any hot-swap tray or caddy required by your chassis must be purchased separately.
