Compact Active Stereo Pair

The Edifier R980T is a self-powered 2.0 bookshelf speaker system finished in classic black wood veneer. Each cabinet houses a four-inch bass driver and a 13 mm silk dome tweeter driven by a built-in 12-watt RMS amplifier. Dual RCA inputs allow two source devices to stay connected simultaneously, while a 3.5 mm to RCA cable is included for portable players. The front-firing flared bass reflex port extends low-frequency response down to 70 Hz.

Ideal For Desktop And Small-Room Listening

This pair suits anyone wanting amplified stereo sound directly from a computer, laptop, TV or turntable without a separate receiver. The compact 17.3 by 7.9 by 10 inch enclosures fit easily on shelves or stands. Buyers who need wireless streaming, a dedicated subwoofer output, or higher output for larger rooms should consider other solutions. The fixed 24-watt total RMS rating also limits peak volume for party-level playback.

24-Watt RMS Total Power With Dual RCA Inputs

The decisive specification is the 24-watt RMS total output split evenly across two channels, paired with two rear RCA line inputs. This combination determines whether the system can drive your desired listening level and connect both a PC and a second analogue source without an external switch. No other single figure in the data defines the product's core capability more directly.

Questions about this item

What does the 3.5 mm input cap in practice?

The 3.5 mm stereo jack accepts any line-level source and the built-in 12-watt-per-channel amplifier drives the 4-inch bass driver and 13 mm silk dome tweeter up to the system's 24-watt RMS total.

What physical space do the 17.3 x 7.9 x 10 inch cabinets need?

Each wooden enclosure measures 17.3 inches high, 7.9 inches wide and 10 inches deep; allow a few centimetres behind the front-firing bass reflex port for airflow.

How do I connect the two speakers and which step is often missed?

Run the supplied speaker cable from the active unit's binding posts to the passive unit matching red to red and black to black, then plug the 3.5 mm-to-RCA cable into your source — the passive link is the step most people forget.
