Indoor and outdoor speaker with IP66 rating

The Elac OD-M61-W is a 6-inch two-way speaker built for indoor or outdoor use. Its IP66 rating means it resists dust and powerful water jets in any mounting orientation. A supplied bracket allows vertical, horizontal, wall, ceiling or corner installation. Removable port plugs let you switch between sealed and ported configurations.

IP66 protection and port configuration limits

The IP66 rating covers dust ingress and strong water jets but not immersion or sustained high-pressure washing. In sealed mode the enclosure remains fully weather-resistant. Opening the port plugs improves bass response yet reduces the ingress protection, so the ported setting should only be used when the speaker is sheltered from direct rain or spray.

Upgrade from basic all-weather speakers

This model replaces entry-level outdoor speakers that lack adjustable port tuning or a discreet mounting system. The jump is worthwhile when you need flexible placement without visible hardware and the option to boost low-frequency output in covered areas. It is not suited for buyers who require in-ground burial ratings or a fully submersible enclosure.

Questions about this item

Should I keep the port plugs in or remove them for the best sound?

Keep the plugs installed for a sealed, IP66-rated enclosure that resists rain and dust; remove them only in dry conditions to switch to a ported alignment that extends low-frequency output.

How does the IP66 rating hold up when the speaker is mounted under eaves?

The IP66 rating means the sealed cabinet is dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets from any direction, so wind-driven rain under eaves will not penetrate the enclosure.

Does the supplied bracket allow the speaker to be aimed downward from a high corner mount?

Yes, the guided shoulder-mount bracket supports vertical, horizontal, wall, ceiling and corner orientations, letting you angle the driver toward the listening area from any of those positions.
