Portable solar panel for outdoor charging

The ELECOM NESTOUT MPA-NEST-S012OV is a 28W foldable solar charger built for campers, hikers and travellers who need USB power away from mains electricity. Dual USB-A ports charge phones, tablets, Bluetooth earbuds and similar devices directly from sunlight. A built-in current-checker LED shows real-time generation so you can reposition the panel for maximum output.

Thermal performance and power delivery

High-efficiency SunPower MAXEON cells deliver up to 24% conversion efficiency, reducing the panel area needed for a given wattage. The ripstop nylon cover is water-resistant and dissipates heat passively with no moving parts, so operation is completely silent. Six-circuit protection guards against temperature extremes, short-circuits, overcharge, over-discharge, over-voltage and over-current during normal use.

Build integration and mounting

The unit folds to a 10.0 in cube weighing 0.59 kilograms and stores cables in two interior mesh pouches. Two adjustable stands let you set the optimal sun angle on flat ground, while three exterior loops allow hanging from tent lines, tree branches or a pack strap. The modular NESTOUT ecosystem accepts matching battery packs and accessories for extended off-grid capacity.

Questions about this item

How do I set up the 2-panel solar charger and angle it for the best charge?

Unfold the two panels, extend the built-in adjustable stands on the rear, and tilt them toward the sun; the current-checker LED display shows real-time generation so you can fine-tune the angle for maximum output.

What parts of the ELECOM NESTOUT MPA-NEST-S012OV might need replacement after extended outdoor use?

The ripstop nylon bag and its mesh pouches handle abrasion, but the USB-A port covers and stand hinges are the first wear points; the solar cells themselves are solid-state and do not degrade mechanically.

At what output does the 28 W panel hit its practical limit during a full day of sun?

The dual USB-A ports share the 28 W rating, so sustained load is capped at the combined port maximum; the LED current checker lets you see when generation drops below that ceiling as the sun angle changes.
